Mothra. Yesterday. |
Mothra, 51, had a successful eight year spell of alternately attacking or defending Tokyo and holds the record of holding the most victories against "The King Of Monsters" Godzilla.
The lepidopteran, known for its ability to spray silk as a ranged attack to entrap or disorient an enemy will have its work cut out with Coventry who, aside from their financial concerns off the pitch, are struggling to adapt to life in League One following relegation last season.
The club, competing in the third tier of English football for the first time since 1964, are still awaiting their first league win of the campaign and went down to a fourth successive defeat on Tuesday, losing 4-1 at Shrewsbury.
Mothra, who has signed a three-year deal, told the club's official website: "This is a great opportunity. Coventry are a club with great tradition and, although we find ourselves in League One, the squad that has been assembled is better than the results so far have shown.
I'm relishing the opportunity to turn things around and bring better times for the Sky Blues supporters. I'm also looking forward to the opportunity of using my mandibles in close combat, or creating gales capable of tearing buildings apart with my giant wings."
Development director Steve Waggott added: "While we understand the supporters' anxiety over recent results, this was an appointment that simply couldn't be rushed.
In fact, considering the thoroughness of the process, we are pleased that within three weeks we have been able to whittle down 75 candidates to the one outstanding Giant Moth Monster for the job and that was Mothra, who was categorically our first choice."

According to the Sky Blues fan Website, other managers considered were Stuart Pearce and Optimus Prime. Both were, at the time of press, unavailable for comment.
